Peter Underwood has been selected as the Green Party candidate for the South Norwood Council election on 7 September.
Recent results have shown that the Green Party can win Council elections around here and South Norwood has the chance to elect the first Green Councillor onto Croydon Council.
Peter has lived in Croydon for over fifteen years and runs the Croydon branch of The Conservation Volunteers who go out every week to improve our parks and green spaces. In 2014 Peter worked as the Warden of South Norwood Country Park and helped set up the Friends group who volunteer to help out in the park. Prior to this Peter spent many years working in the civil service, so he knows how government works from the inside.
Peter is an active member of the Croydon Friends of the Earth group and has recently been doing air pollution monitoring across Croydon, including one monitor outside Stanley Halls. The results of these monitors should be out soon and Peter will be using this evidence to push for action to improve the air that we breathe.
On being selected, Peter said “I’ve lived in Croydon for over fifteen years. I’ve seen how we’ve been treated by local politicians, being taken for granted and just ignored. I honestly believe that we all deserve better. As your Councillor for South Norwood I will always work in your best interests and make sure your voice is heard on Croydon Council.”
